For New York Yankees, Brett Gardner is an All-Star Bargain

Speedy New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner learned this afternoon that he would appear in his first ever MLB All Star Game, as was reported by MLB.com’s Grace Raynor, but the man from Holly Hill, South Carolina is more than just an effective fielder and hitter that his team values greatly. On top of an All Star player, Gardner has been an All Star-caliber bargain for the Yankees, having inked a four-year, $52 million extension prior to the start of last season. Had both sides not agreed to a new contract, Gardner would have been a free agent last winter and had multiple suitors lining up to sign him.
